Canada Foundation for Innovation - Research Manitoba Canada Foundation for Innovation Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) is the federal government agency for funding research infrastructure within universities and colleges. The research infrastructure includes state-of-the-art equipment, laboratories, databases, specimens, scientific collections, computer hardware and software, communications linkages, and buildings necessary to conduct leading-edge research. The federal CFI program supports 40% of total project costs. Research Manitoba’s CFI Matching Fund program provides 20-40% of the project total, depending on available funds, for proposals that have been awarded grants through one of CFI’s competitions.
